First Steps Towards Islamic Erudition 

This short mini-course is designed to serve as a primer (Islam 101) to orient serious students to the different facets of Islam. It serves as an academic commentary to the Hadith of Jibril (Umm al-Sunnah). The ideal student of the course should be able to understand and articulate the foundations of Islam with confidence and mastery. The following texts form the basis of most of the class content:

  1. First Steps in Practicing Islam - Shaykh `Omar Subedar
  2. A Thinking Person's Guide to Islam - Prince Ghazi Bin Muhammad
  3. The Sealed Nectar - Safi al-Rahman Mubarakpuri

Taught by Ustadh Hassan Syed.

*Students don't need these texts to benefit from the course, however, having access to the text is recommended. 

Prerequisites

This course does not require any prerequisites but serves as a prerequisite for the flagship scholars program at the Taqwa Academy.

EVALUATION

There is an open book MCQ exam and a reflection paper at the end of the course that is due from each student enrolled in the program.
