PROGRAM OVERVIEW

The HAFS program is the formal recitation program whereby students master the tajwīd of Ḥafṣ ʿan ʿĀṣim as transmitted by Imām al-Shātibī. Students must pass an oral evaluation, theory assessment, and gain the approval of their teacher to receive recognition from Taqwa Academy (shahāda). If they wish to attain the complete license to teach (ijāza), students who successfully pass the exam must then conduct further study covering advanced tajwīd study as well as Qurʾanic preservation, and then train two students to the level of recognition, whereby they themselves will be granted the complete license on final approval of their main teacher.  

The QARI program is only for students who have mastered HAFS and are aiming for proficiency in the Qirāʾāt. Key areas of study include the ʿAshara Ṣughra, understanding uṣūl and furūsh, and in-depth analysis around the history of the Qirāʾāt.
